Grapes Photo Viticulture

Bendigo's free draining gravel soils combine with an ideal climate to create the perfect terroir for growing pinot noir grapes.

Almost all of our viticulture is done by hand. Crop loads are kept low by shoot thinning and also by selective bunch thinning after fruit set. This careful approach allows us to produce grapes that make wine of the highest quality.

The vineyard is planted in a variety of clones of pinot noir. The original planting was of clones 5,6 and Abel with subsequent plantings of 115, 667 and 777. The vines are spur pruned in the winter and we use a vertical shoot positioning canopy system. Inground water monitoring allows us to precisely meet the vines' irrigation requirements.
